Too Soon?

Too Soon?

Hey Friends,

Good morning. Last week I took immediate action and sent you an email summarizing some of the events taking place in Ukraine. I also made jokes.

The reviews were mixed. Here are some actual quotes

  • “Good writers take risks. You are a good writer.”
  • “Honestly, I think we need more funny.“

And the best of them all

  • “You’re not funny.”

So I’d like to ask the obvious question: When is ‘too soon’?

I’ll get to that in just a moment, but first, The News.

Welcome to Week 9 of 2022

This week has been grueling in so many ways, and it has weighed on me very heavily.

For example, the back porch has been covered in ice and the dog is afraid to go outside to pee.

Also, my wife has rearranged our bedroom and I can’t find my nightstand.

And lastly, my HOA sent out another bill immediately after I criticized them in an article.

Oh, and Vladimir Putin ordered an invasion of Ukraine, attacking an innocent and free country for his own gain. While the impact has been tragic, the resolve of the Ukrainians has been inspiring. Ukraine and Russia are at war, but so is the rest of the world as a result. The war is also an information war, and Ukraine is excelling. As one reporter from Ukraine put it, “The Truth is our Business and Business is Good.”

Despite the civilian casualties, countless regular citizens have joined the battlefield, defending themselves from unlawful attacks, slowing the advance of the Russian military. Countries across the world have taken action to rebuke and sanction Russia and provide aid to Ukraine.

While this week has been a tough one, in Ukraine, we see a resonance of hope.

Glory to Ukraine!

Hot Takes

Week 9 of 2022

Biden delivered the State of The Union Address this Tuesday. After watching the speech and seeing the responses, here’s my takeaway.

Here are some of the highlights.

For the first time in history, The President stood with two women sitting behind him, his VP Kamala Harris and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Biden’s speech consisted of 7.5% bigger promises. As stated in his speech, he’s created more jobs in a year than anyone in history but most of the people working in those jobs don’t approve of him.

In the Republican response, they expressed criticism that in 13 months, Biden has not solved all of the world’s problems but has managed to cause all of them, and the prior administration had nothing to do with any of them.

Republican Senator Marco Rubio wasn’t able to join because he was too busy to get the required Covid test since they take a matter of minutes. When asked for the real reason, a person close to Rubio who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the matter, said “I don’t know”.

Lauren Boebert was heard heckling the President as he made reverent remarks about fallen troops, including his son Beau. Some thought she was out of line, until they realized she was on the Republican side of the chamber where rules of decorum no longer apply.

Seriously Though. A bipartisan moment in keeping with his character, Biden closed with: “The State of our Union is strong because you, the American People, are strong.”

The Previous President’s name came up yesterday. Commissh-One-6 says they have enough evidence to recommend criminal charges for Donald Trump. Should the DOJ decide to proceed with charges, it’s reported that Trump is looking into building ‘Trump Penitentiary’, one of his few yet untouched entrepreneurial investments after pursuits ranging from hotels to reality TV (referring to his presidency).

One last thing. The President has announced his Supreme Court nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. Recently I wrote an article about why it is vital that we must have a black female Supreme Court Justice.

When is 'Too Soon'?

The Gist

This week’s article is about the ongoing struggle of those who make people laugh.

Timing is everything, and I can assure you that if I know the iron is hot, it’s my policy to strike immediately. But when the iron is a terrible tragedy, and striking is a humorous piece of oral literature punctuated by a punch line…

Well, that timely joke could be subject to severe sanctions.

Isn't it Ironic?

So is it too soon?  I mean, after all, one of the world’s most evil people has enacted some of the most evil acts on innocent people. But we can talk about Donald Trump another time. First, let’s focus on Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. With treachery like this taking place, is it really time to be making jokes? let’s examine that.

Read the rest of the story here.

That’s it for this week. Enjoy Your Weekend!
